The Thunder God was an evil demon in the sky. When angry, he would hurl lightning bolts, descend upon the house, and eat the belly buttons of children. Whenever we saw lightning we would rush under the mosquito netting with my grandmother, terrified. Grandmother would repeat this mantra with all her might: "Nam myo horenge-kyo."
